How to Live a Purpose Driven Life – The Peoples Music School

by inspire on January 5, 2011

The Grand Opening of the Peoples Music SchoolSometimes we come across someone in life who we feel is destiny sent. They appear at exactly the right moment and inspire us to use our God given talents and gifts for the greater good of others. For me Dr Rita Simo is one such person.

As I read about her and watched a video I was reminded about the importance of having a “Dream”. I was reminded about the importance of having a Purpose for that dream, one that serves an important need in society. I was reminded about the importance of having a Vision for that dream, one that is grounded in love and conviction. I was reminded that it’s in the every day chosen activities of life that we mold, manifest and live  that dream. I was reminded that we often need to be flexible and creative in “how” that dream will manifest, even deciding to become a Nun in the hope that they would help a dream come true! I was also reminded that achieving something that is truly worthwhile in our lives takes a lot of patience, persistence and passion!

Dr Rita Simo learned music in her native Dominican Republic and continued her studies in New York. She couldn’t believe that you had to pay to learn music, as it was free in the Dominican Republic! She consequently realised if a family hadn’t got enough money, the children couldn’t learn the beautiful art of music. This was the catalyst for her dream, her calling, her mission.

Dr Rita Simo teaching in the early daysIn 1975 she took action on that dream by deciding to provide free music lessons to any child that wanted them.  With hard work, $625, and a donated piano, the People’s Music School was born in a one-room, converted beauty salon. The school has come a long way since and has taught music to over 10,000 students, children and adults.

Below is a video about the People’s Music school and Dr Rita Simo. Please take a few moments to watch it and be inspired by it’s many inspirational messages. Let it be a catalyst that awakens your dreams and brings them onto a whole new level of manifesting – create a purpose, a vision and take some loving action towards making them happen. You need it. Your family needs it. Your community needs it. Your country needs it. The world needs it!

Today is the day to take the next step in the direction of your dreams! As a well know rabbinical saying states – “if not now, when?”
