How to prove your dreams can’t come true

by inspire on June 24, 2008

Sometimes we come across a book or a film which tells us we can have whatever we want. So our ego mind says “Excellent, that sounds good to me, there’s loads of things I want!”

So we get to work manifesting – I want a new house – the most beautiful in the world; a flashy car; I absolutely want out of this job which I hate and please give me a perfect loving relationship! Our ego mind sets these MASSIVE goals and wants them ALL achieved NOW! We create a vision board, put up pictures, feel them already realised and affirm “I’m a millionaire, I live in my dream house, I have my dream job, I am at peace” and so on. We’re also supposed to do it every day if its to work and absolutely dont let any negative thoughts in!!! So every morning we get up early and look at our vision board pretending its all happened!

After a few days of early morning mental re-wiring our faith begins to fade. During the day another voice starts to speak inside us saying things like – “who are you to own a big house?” or “a millionaire! Are you kidding? You said that years ago and you’re still broke!” or “a dream job!!! Dont you know you have to suffer in this life to make a living!”

This voice begins to put some doubt in your manifesting but you carry on for another couple of days until you meet your friend ”doubting Thomas”.

Thomas KNOWS we’re at the mercy of a chaotic world and must survive as best we can. You AFFIRM to him that “you’re a millionaire, living in a gigantic house, with loads of ferrari’s with the most loving partner in the world and are totally at peace with yourself.”

He bursts out laughing and tells you you’ve lost the plot!!! Your inner peace is quickly lost as you begin to argue with Thomas and wonder is he right, afterall you’ve been doing the manifesting for a week and nothing’s happened! But what about the film you watched which said you can have anything you want ..?

To top it all Thomas, out of concern for you, tells you about his friend, who gave up their job to chase their dreams,  ended up flat broke, went back to their employer with their tails between their legs, nearly ended up getting divorced and got a bad dose of hemeroids!!!

That night as you go to sleep you finally decide after a few weeks of trying to manifest your dreams it’s time to take down the vision board and get back to reality. Your last thought as you go off to sleep with a tear in your eye is -  ”I’m simply not worthy!!!”

When we set massive goals that are far outside our present reality its very difficult to truly believe they will come true. It’s far better to start where success is easy – believe and act at this level and build success upon success. As the Chinese saying goes “a journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step” and remember that step isent the one that will take you to the top of Mount Everest but it may be the one that puts you on the path to your chosen summit.

Set a small goal for yourself, one that is easily achieved. Maybe this is to get fitter, healthier, start saving, learn something new, create a small business, whatever.  Ask yourself how will you know this goal has been achieved? Will you run a 10K, have saved every month for 6 months, started a course in art or music or writing or something that you’ve always loved to do. Once your goal is set take a step in that direction – go to the gym, open a savings account, go on a course and act on it today!

As you continue to take steps in the direction of your dreams/goals celebrate every glorious step. When your goal is achieved realise it was because of YOU that it has been achieved (with the help of others of course) -your thoughts/imagination which created the goal, your vision, your decision to go for it and your consistent action to achieve it. If your goals are about being and doing what you love, your dreams are not on some far off future horizon but you’re experiencing them every day as you exercise, or write, or play music, or save, or by being the source of a totally loving relationship, or by building your business.
