Leisure
“What is this life if, full of care,
we have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.
No time to turn at Beauty’s glance,
And watch her feet how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A full life this if, full of care,
We have not time to stand and stare.
By Wm. Henry Davies (1871 – 1940)
Life can pass us by and we never take time to really appreciate that which is beauitful and glorious in our life. Sometimes we think all the glory, happiness, peace, achievement, contentment is out there somewhere in our future and we hope to God that one day we will find it!
Always pushing, always striving
always chasing but never arriving …
One thing we can do to arrive is “stand and stare”. Let this week be a week in which you do “stand and stare” and allow those feelings of gratitude for all the wonder, magic and beauty that is in your life to rise up. Choose to take the time to be grateful for all the wonderful people in your life, even those who you may not have considered so wonderful but have thought you some of lifes greatest lessons. Choose to take time to experience the true beauty of nature – flowers, trees, rivers, lakes, animals and insects.
Choose to take at least ten minutes each day “to stand and stare” and notice wonderful feelings inside of you grow and grow! Also notice how much more effective the rest of your day then is.Â
In-Joy!
